Calligraphy Flourish Friday - hope

I hope you have had a good week.
Are you staying cool in this heat?

At the Calligraphy Guild of Indiana meeting this past Saturday, Sandy Wagner gave an excellent presentation on Monoline Text Blocks using Romans. The letters not the people. :)

I took some time to practice this week.  Thank you, Sandy!

The curved letters, particularly the O and the D, gave me fits.

I wanted to try to incorporate a text block into a piece.  But two words into it, I realized not only was my spacing terrible, I wasn't even using the Romans we had learned.

I was bummed, because I really liked the background and the lettering of "hope" with a folded pen.  Not willing to give up on the piece, I turned it 90 degrees and wrote H-O-P-E over and over.  Then I added a snippet from a not-so-successful folded pen attempt.

I'm happy with the result.

Happy weekend, friends!
