This is a practice page done on 100% cotton, resume paper using a Gillott 170 nib and Moon Palace Sumi. E.A. Lupfer is one of my favorite Master Penmen, and these exercises can be found in his "Ornate Pictorial Calligraphy" published by Dover. I am naturally heavy handed, and it takes great concentration for me to lighten up.
For those in the States, I hope you have a lovely holiday weekend! Tomorrow is Matt's graduation open house. I am swimming in a sea of "to do" lists, but I am looking forward to celebrating this milestone with family and friends.
Go forth and flourish!

ReplyDeleteLooks beautiful Jane!!!. Just got back from the Horace Healey collection exhibit in Kansas. It was incredible to see some of Lupfer's original work including some of his earliest efforts! There were a few original flourishes from the book Fascinating Pen Flourishes which later became Ornate Pictorial Calligraphy! I will try to get pictures up soon.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your holiday weekend!

HI, Jane, Beautiful loops. I hope the graduation and celebration were tons of fun. Milestones indeed. Can't wait to see more of your beautiful calligraphy.
ReplyDeleteYou wield your pen so nearly perfectly hard or soft. I always love seeing and being inspired by your flourishes. It reminds me that I want to learn how to do them.
ReplyDeleteHope you enjoyed your weekend.

Thanks for posting this and the link to the book. I suck at flourishing and ruin a lot of pieces trying. I have an original Lupfer sample framed, I know he is Bill's teacher.
