Flourish Friday - CHAIRish the Children

The Affirmation Chair by Jane Farr
I painted this chair for The Villages "CHAIRish the Children" fundraising auction.
The Villages is a child and family services agency here in Indianapolis. You can read about the good work they are doing by clicking here.

I had never worked on a piece of furniture. The chair arrived unfinished and needing sanding.

I applied 2 coats of white, acrylic paint.

I wanted to create a sunny, vibrant, and happy chair. :)

We're familiar with the "Time Out" chair. (At least my kids are!) Instead of a Time Out Chair to correct negative behavior, I wanted to create an Affirmation Chair to correct negative thoughts. How many of us beat ourselves up with negative thoughts?

I want the chair's occupant to know and Believe the truth...
they are loved
they are talented
they are creative
they are brilliant...
May this knowledge help them Shine! :)

The online auction ends on November 10, 2011 at 8pm Eastern Time and will be followed by a live auction at the Indianapolis Artsgarden on Friday, November 11 at 6pm. The closing bids online will be the starting bids at the event Friday evening.  There will be proxys who will bid for those who cannot attend the event but would like to continue bidding.

Happy weekend everyone.
Go forth and flourish!

  4. That's really lovely, Jane. Sometimes I could really do with an Affirmation Chair :) Can I ask - how did you do the the lettering? Did you draw it on and paint it in? Or just go for it with a broad-edged brush? I think anyone sitting in that chair would feel truly special.
