Flourish Friday - Printer Follow Up

©Jane Farr Calligraphy & Design LLC
Thanks to all of you that offered advice regarding large format printers. (see this post)
I decided to purchase an Epson R2000. Although I have only made 3 prints thus far, I am very pleased with the results.

Using Photoshop, I added a few more flourishes to my Psalm 100 piece that I started in November. This is one of the prints I've made. It measures 12" x 40", is printed on Arches Text Wove, and is currently hanging on my fridge. :)

Happy Flourish Friday!
I hope you have a great weekend.

  8. Good luck with your new printer. I had a much older R200, and it was annoying / expensive with having so many cartridges. What made it worth it was the Staples Rewards program that gives you $2 store credit for each ink cartridge you recycle/give to them. Limit is 10 per month, but it's a good way to save on the new cartridges and other office supplies. I started when they gave $3 each, but that changed recently. I do love printing my work on nice paper though.

  9. Jane,
Your Copperplate is just amazing... I was just looking through your wedding calligraphy samples and I'm just blown away... it is spot on perfect! Please email me and let me know two things... how long you've been doing Copperplate and what is your favorite nib/ink to use... my son's getting married and I've got to get practicing!!! :D

  10. Jane,
As a learning calligrapher and artisan, I was absolutely amazed when I found your site! My aunt asked me to do her wedding invitations, so looking at your wedding suite was really helpful. I learned italic lettering so Copperplate is on my list of to-dos. Any recommendations for learning at a leisure pace? I have a large family and travel is out of the question right now.

  11. Thank you, everyone, for your comments!

Although I've emailed her privately, to publicly answer Kathy's questions:
I took my first script (Copperplate) class in 1998. My favorite nib/ink for Copperplate depends on the paper. I think an overall good choice would be a Zebra G (comic nib). These are large nibs and require an appropriately sized penholder. A smaller nib that I like is a Hiro 700. For black ink on envelopes, I regularly use Moon Palace Sumi.

    To answer Angenise's question:
First of all, welcome! Thank you for your visit and comment!!
I strongly suggest spending time at the IAMPETH website. You should find the "Lessons" page there particularly useful. Here's a link:

Also: Iranian calligrapher, Hamid Reza Ebrahimi, has a number of excellent Copperplate videos on YouTube. Here's the link:

    I hope this helps!
