Calligraphy Flourish Friday - Illumination Practice

Using the handouts from Rosemary Buczek's  workshop, I made this B.  I used Staedtler Aquarell watercolor pencils, Instacoll, and 23K patent gold leaf.  It's done on Diploma Parchment, which thanks to this post from Heather Held, I ordered from John Neal.  I really liked working on it.  I accidentally dragged my hand through the watercolor, and it cleaned up beautifully.

At Rosemary's workshop, she graciously let us use one of her hand tools from Talas to do the tooling.  The hand tools are gorgeous but very expensive. I had purchased these metal embossing tools from MercArt a few years ago at Artiscape, and I wondered how they would work for tooling on the gold.

They seemed to work pretty well.

Using watercolor pencils and the MercArt tools is sort of the poor man's method, but it was still good to practice.

I found a pretty frame for it. I wish I had taken a photo of it framed before giving it as a gift. Oh well.

Wishing you a great weekend.
Go forth and flourish!!
