Flourish Friday - IAMPETH & The Power of Words

Today, I feel like a bee in a bonnet...a BB in a boxcar...a chicken with its head cut-off...what else? A pinball?  Anyway - a LOT to get done, including pack for the International Association of Master Penmen, Engrossers and Teachers of Handwriting convention.

I'm really looking forward to IAMPETH!
I know IAMPETH President, Debi Zeinert, and her diligent crew have put in countless hours preparing for this year's gathering in Milwaukee.
Will you be at IAMPETH? Not going, but wish you were? Please leave a comment on this post!

The image above is the result of one of my "bottom of the inkwell" playtimes.  When I get to the bottom of my inkwell, I will usually play in one of my journals or on a big sheet of paper as I did above. Then I tear the piece of paper into smaller sections.  See my previous "bottom of the inkwell" posts by clicking HERE, HERE and HERE.

I thought you might be interested in the following.  My thanks to Tootie Horn for sharing this information with me.  Tootie received the following directly from calligrapher Tina Lee-Cronkhite:

I and five other calligraphers have devoted 2 years to producing our piece for Artprize, the world’s largest art competition in Grand Rapids, MI. From September 19th–October 7th 2012, you can view the piece at the Women’s City Club. PLEASE pass this on to all your friends. We’d like as many people to view this as possible. This is a work of art that will survive centuries because of the nature of the materials we have used. Not only is it a love of letters, but the Calligraphic world has not seen anything like this before. Please take a moment to view these sites and then sign up to vote! (You can’t vote until September 19th and you must sign up in person after doing it online to be eligible to vote, rules at artprize.org)

( Marijo Carney, Kimberly Dixon, Jane Ewing, Tina Lee-Cronkhite, Christine Orsolini,  and Karen Vosburg) I had the pleasure of meeting Jane Ewing during the Chicago Calligraphy Collective's fieldtrip to Twinrocker, and I wish her and her fellow scribes the best of luck.

    1. Good for you, Agnes! I believe you will LOVE the IAMPETH experience. My first was 3 years ago in Nashville, and I had the same feelings as you expressed. Everyone was so warm and welcoming. I look forward to meeting you and wish you safe travels!

  3. I will not be going this year.:( It has been about 5 years since I last went and I miss it so much. I am definitely planning on next year.

On another note - I LOVE your penholders!! Do you mind sharing who made them or how one could purchase them? ...as if I need more, but you can never have too many, can you? :)

Have a wonderful trip! I know you will.

    xoxo~

....and love the bottom of your inkwell drawings.

    1. I so look forward to meeting you at a future IAMPETH, Dana!! Bill Lilly gave me the wonderful penholder pictured above. I'm not sure if he has any of those for sale or not. I'll be happy to ask him for you, if you'd like. I got the reed brush at my guild's White Elephant Sale. It had been in the collection of our guild's founder, and I LOVE it! You may also want to contact Jake Weidmann. (http://www.jakeweidmann.com/) Click on "Calligraphy" and then on "Penholders." I saw on Facebook that he has a number of very cool pen holders that he will be selling at IAMPETH. Some looked like they were made of acrylic like the top half of my Bill Lilly holder pictured above.

I will be thinking of you at IAMPETH! :) xo

  7. Thanks, Jane! I would love you to check to see if Bill has any left.

I have seen Jake's and they are amazing. Some tell me they are very heavy - so if you have one, I would love your opinion. They are gorgeous!

I can't wait to meet you and so sorry I will miss you this year. I LOVE IAMPETH. Such a wonderful group of friends. I know it will be great fun!!

    xo~~

    1. Hi, Dana!
I will contact Bill, and let you know what he says about the acrylic holders. I do have one Jake holder, and I really like it. It isn't too heavy for me. The "neck" of the holder is a little larger than all the other holders in my collection, and I REALLY like that larger neck. (Not sure if it's called a "neck" or not, but I hope that makes sense.)
